Inspired Beginnings
Photobooksbywomen.org was founded to illuminate the rich history of women’s photographic work through the medium of the Photobook.
The groundbreaking publications by 10x10 Photobooks New York
What They Saw: Historical Photobooks by Women, 1843–1999
and
How We See: Photobooks by Women
ignited a global movement.
Inspired by the concept of reading rooms dedicated to showcasing Photobooks by Women, Falmouth University Photography MA graduates Philippa James and Emma Davies carried the vision forward in the UK.
Having successfully established many pop-up Photobooks By Women reading rooms, they actively encourage the next cohort of Falmouth University MA students, with the help of Lecturer
Colin Pantall. In the future, this will also bring reading rooms to Europe and Jamaica.
This showcase of Photobooks by Women across Asia is born out of that nurturing.
And remember! The world's first photobook was by a woman!
Anna Atkins Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions (1843–53) .

Community Focus
The library serves as a community resource, inviting students and photography enthusiasts to explore and appreciate the diverse narratives and artistic expressions created by women.

A Platform for Recognition
By showcasing both historical and contemporary photobooks, we aim to elevate the visibility of women's contributions to the art of photography, ensuring their stories are told and celebrated.
