About Us
Empowering Women's Voices in Photography
Inspired Beginnings
Photobooksbywomen.org was established to shine a light on the dissemination of the photographic works of women throughout history with the Photobook.
Inspired by 10x10 Photobooks New York and their seminal publications
'What They Saw: Historical Photobooks by Women, 1843-1999' and
'How We See: Photobooks by Women'
Remember, the world's first photobook was by a woman!
Anna Atkins Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions (1843–53)
Community Focus
The library serves as a community resource, inviting students and photography enthusiasts to explore and appreciate the diverse narratives and artistic expressions created by women.
A Platform for Recognition
By showcasing both historical and contemporary photobooks, we aim to elevate the visibility of women's contributions to the art of photography, ensuring their stories are told and celebrated.
